The SamTrans Service Plan (SSP) is an in-depth study of the SamTrans fixed-route bus system that will provide a foundation to further understand existing bus service and how SamTrans can best serve its customers.  The SSP will address recommendations in the short-term (two to five years) and the long-term (15 years).  Staff introduced the SSP update and began garnering public support at a series of public open houses in July 2011.  The updated SSP is anticipated to be complete in Spring 2012.  More information on the SamTrans Service Plan is available at: http://ssp.tmdinc.net/.

Starting January 1, 2011, Caltrain launched a weekend “baby bullet” express pilot program where four express trains, two in the morning and two in the evening, will operate per direction per day.  This service, which began as a three-month pilot project, is successful and continues to be operated.

Caltrain is developing its Caltrain Modernization Program which encompasses several interrelated projects that will upgrade the performance, operating efficiency, capacity, safety and reliability of Caltrain’s commuter rail service.  The Caltrain Modernization program also manages the agency’s coordination with the California High-Speed Rail Authority, the state entity responsible for planning, constructing and operating the California’s future high-speed rail system. The Caltrain corridor has been identified as the preferred route for the high-speed rail system between San Jose and San Francisco.
